Mt Eden’s Champion Record Breaker
Mt Eden Swimming Club’s own Luke Karena set the pool alight at the recent Auckland Swimming Junior Championships held at West Wave on 7 – 9 December 2018. Luke completely dominated his 9 y.o. Boys age group with 8 Gold and 1 Bronze medal. And among those 8 Gold medals, Luke broke two Auckland Swimming long course age group records in the 100m and 200m breaststroke; records that had previously stood for 18 and 16 years respectively. An outstanding performance, which backed up the Auckland Swimming short course records in the same events that Luke had broken in the couple of months prior to this meet.
Mt Eden Swimming also dominated the 11 y.o. Girls age group, with Elisha Lam the new Auckland Champion in the 200m freestyle, and also adding 3 Silver and 1 Bronze medals to her Gold. Arabella Culley also got among the medals with 3 Silver and 3 Bronze in what was an outstanding weekend for the Club.
Our congratulations go to Luke, Elisha and Arabella, and to all the swimmers in our team who competed over the 3 days.
